November Update / Gratitude!

I first want to acknowledge and reflect on the good things: my clients, friends, and family. I am so grateful to have each and every one of you in my life, and I truly would not be where I am today without the trust you’ve placed in me. So, thank you!

Thankful for Science!

Two young boys wearing facemasks stand on the sidewalk while a man in a parka holds a microphone or them to speak.

It’s been 20 months since the first lockdown, and we’re so thankful for the science that allowed the boys to get their initial shot on November 7. We were among the first in line and afterwards, they shared their thoughts with NBC 4 News. Soon, we’ll be able to invite friends and family over and entertain in the new house! We can't wait!

(Read through to the bottom for a video of the boys' full interview.)

Market Update

Is the market simmering down? One of my recent single-family row house listings in Columbia Heights had a ton of showings and six very interested buyers. But in the end, we only had two offers. Fortunately for the seller, two offers are enough to create an escalation situation. So, even with a comparatively low volume of offers, I still have a happy seller. But what does this say about today’s market? A year ago, buyers were frantically jumping on anything that popped onto the scene. But today, they seem to be taking their time to find a property that checks off more of the boxes on their list of wants and needs.

For sellers, this means that careful preparation of the home and the right marketing plan should take a larger role. For buyers, now is a great time to be looking because the competition is less fierce.

Hemlock Update

Although the house wasn’t quite ready for move-in, we did have a functional toilet and faucet by Halloween. With the bare necessities in place, we sat out on the front lawn and delivered candy to trick-or-treaters via a chute I made out of a 10-foot long plumbing pipe I had leftover from the construction. A little fluorescent orange spray paint and some zip ties, and we were ready to go! We had a lot of fun catching up with friends and meeting a few new neighbors!

As this hits your screen today, we are officially sleeping in the new house! The dumpster is still out-front, there is lots of dust, and we hardly have any furniture except our beds, but almost a year after buying the house, we're finally able to call it home! We still have a few projects here and there to finish up, but we’re so happy to get settled in and start making new memories.
